Real Life--Talk Time

Just like many of you, I can distinctively remember times when I have felt inferior or belittled. Whether it's an intentional betrayal or merely a snide remark, hurtful is hurtful. Yet, luckily for me, I have almost always had a friend or family member right there beside me to help me get through it... But what about the people who don't have those close relationships, or at the very least don't feel as if they do? What happens to them? Do you ever wonder how some cases of depression start? Or maybe why some people are seemingly absurdly insecure? Could it be that the sarcasm and so called "funny" comments that are so commonly witnessed every day in our judgmental society could actually cause someone to sink to a dangerous self-low? Even perhaps someone who seems as if has tons of friends and family? I think yes. Just recently, I have been the witness to so many discouraging situations that are unfortunately all... yep, you guessed it... real life. They all got me thinking, and I realized, I never want to find myself guilty of making another feel as if they are insignificant. It seems so elementary, but it really is an easy decision to make. Everyone has something to offer; appreciate that. Like Albert Einstein said, "...if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." Real Life: You don't have to like everyone, but you don't have to dislike anyone.

Real Life: Third time's a charm

What do you get when you add JTL, my car, and manual headlights? The answer to that, my friend, is a dead battery. Long story short, I let JTL drive my car so she didn't have to wait for me to get out of class to take her home. Needless to say, when I finally got back to my car the lights had been on ever since she parked it, and of course the battery was oh so dead. We got out the jumper cables, pulled her car next to mine, and worked our mechanic magic. However, as I started my car, the alarm began sounding. The only way I could get it off was to turn my car off, therefore not leaving it running long enough to recharge the battery. Sooooo we had to jump it a second time. This time we avoided the alarm and drove to the restaurant where we were headed in the first place. After a great meal, we headed back out to the car. You may think that after you jump a car and drive it somewhere that it is suddenly charged again. That is NOT real life. Let's just say what IS real life is that the time it takes to get from JTL's apartment to Harry's is not long enough for a car battery to charge. So yes, it was dead again. Luckily, JTL's brother was working, and we got to use his car to jump it... a third time. Hopefully all the driving around we did afterwards was long enough for it to charge considering I have to work tomorrow. Real Life: I jumped my car three times in one night.

Real Life: Titanic

About a week ago I was flipping through the channels and discovered that Titanic was on! I remember thinking it was the coolest movie, and not even being allowed to watch it for a long time. It had been years since I watched it all the way through so of course, I clicked "record" so the other girls in the house could enjoy the pleasures of watching it as well. However, I've realized that since then, I have watched it about 7 times. I'm not sure who has watched it more, CW or me, but the point is I have realized how pathetic I am that I still obsess over Leo as Jack Dawson. Oh and by the way, I watched it again last night. Real Life: I know every word to Titanic.

Real Life: Red River Gorge

In the words of HEW, "Real Life: We're legit campers." We obviously made it back, and here's how it turned out for us. First of all, when we got there, the guys who we were meeting were waiting for us at the parking lot. They immediately started laughing at us when they saw what we had packed. When we asked what they were laughing about, they informed us that we were about to have to make a 30 minute hike to get to where we were actually camping. Our Vera Bradley duffle bags and styrofoam cooler turned out to be quite the opposite of things you'd like to carry for 30 minutes on rocks and through water. You may think that the guys would take them for us and it would all be okay. That is not real life. What IS real life is that the one boy who did decide to help us chose the cooler and ended up slipping, falling, and smashing it to pieces on a rock about 15 minutes into the hike. Then when we got there, HEW, JTL, and I decided to go down to the river and skip rocks. This was fun until JTL fell in trying to jump back to shore without getting her feet wet. Turns out a wet butt is worse. Luckily, the amount of laughter that followed from everyone set the mood for the rest of the night, and we had a blast. With this plus much more, camping is probably our favorite past time to say the least. We really will go again soon, but next time trust me we'll be prepared. Real Life: We survived Red River Gorge.

Real Life: We're going camping

We decided that this weekend, we are going to switch up our usual activities and be more creative. So naturally, we're going camping at Red River Gorge. CAR has the tent, REA is driving, HEW has the hot dogs, JTL has the sleeping bags, CMB has the drinks, and I have the stuff for s'mores. I haven't been camping since I was little, so this could be interesting to say the least. From what I remember, tents set up easily, and camping is a great time with little or no worries. I have a feeling with this group, this thought may not be real life. What IS real life is if I no longer post after today, we probably got lost or eaten by large animals. Real Life: a bunch of sorority girls are going camping.

Real Life: Pop Lock and Drop It

Needless to say, all of my friends are rather entertaining. This one in particular, RDH, loves to entertain us all with her dancing. One night, we were at a little get together, and RDH was dancing away as usual. She proceeded to move to the counter-top so she could in fact share the fun that she was having with everyone there. Then, her song came on. "Pop, Lock, and Drop It" was blaring from the speakers, and RDH turned around to do just that. Remember, she is on a counter-top. You may think that watching a beautiful girl "pop, lock, and drop it" on an elevated surface would cause an uproar only for the males in the room. However, that is NOT real life. What IS real life is that this particular move includes "dropping it", and when RDH preformed that drop, she fell off of the counter flat onto her back. Luckily, no one was injured, and she can still pop, lock, and drop it quite well in fact. However, with the bruise that drop produced, I doubt very seriously she'll be doing it from a counter-top anytime soon.
